Welcoming All to Seek, Love, and Bear Witness to Jesus!

Everyday Evangelization:

Welcoming All to Seek, Love, and Bear Witness to Jesus!

Dear Holy Family,

Although it’s been a while since our last “Everyday Evangelization” post, there has been much going on behind the scenes!  Following Bishop Powers’ Pastoral Letter on Evangelization and in lock step with the diocese’s Maintenance to Mission evangelization initiative, a group of energized volunteers came together to form Holy Family’s Evangelization Team and has been meeting monthly to discern and activate our parish evangelization mission, which you see in blue font atop this column.  We hope to provide inspiration and cast a clear vision for what this  new evangelization should look like at Holy Family.  The team is excited about many new ideas and initiatives!  You’ll be hearing quite a bit about our team’s plans as we seek to bring many into a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

One of our team’s first efforts is to remind us all of the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.  Following the Masses at Christmas, team members will be distributing free copies of Matthew Kelly’s book, Beautiful Eucharist.  (We have 300 copies; please limit one per household.)  Throughout the Christmas season, we’ll use this column and the parish website Points of Light blog to facilitate a parish-wide reading and conversation of the book.  We hope you’ll read along with us each week and join the conversation by clicking on “Points of Light” at the top of our parish website.

May the light of Jesus’ presence bring joy to our hearts,

Bob

PS – Your Evangelization Team members are Marcie Ahmann, Brenda Bredeson, Carol Gilson, Steve Humblet, Jan Jubert, Cathy Kender, Jason Martin, Jim Martin, Mimi Miklautsch, Diane Mullen, Lee Ann Niebuhr, Maria and Scott Pederson, and Bob King.  More are welcome!  Consider dropping in at our next meeting: 6PM, Tuesday, December 19 (following Mass).

It was good to read the many testimonials of how people had been touched by their encounters with the Eucharist. Chapter 7, Bishop Fulton Sheen’s comments on how earthly things can’t satisfy our souls particularly struck me. In the Eucharist, we really are in touch with our Lord, in relationship with Him in a very real way. What a precious gift and how it changes you and your life!

Kelly's Beautiful Eucharist reminds me that many around our tumultuous world are denied access to the sacraments. Others are only able to experience the Eucharist sporadically, yet we are so blessed to be able to receive it daily! The grace we receive is sustenance and such an accessible way to the path God has offered each of us. The Eucharist ... the best "fast food" ever... lucky us!

Thanks for your comment, Steve. A couple sites to check out for more information and resources from Matthew Kelly: matthewkelly . com (books, podcasts, etc.), and dynamiccatholic . com (his company website chockfull of additional resources.)

I've been a big fan of Matt Kelly for many years. Yes he brings inspiration within an easy to understand message. Great stuff! Awsome speaker as well, check on line for his podcast and videos. There may be even one on the Beautiful Eucharist. But I'd much rather read it :)

Agreed, Jim! I know of several people who "warmed" to our Catholic faith by way of Matthew Kelly's clear and easy-to-understand writings. To outsiders, our faith can seam daunting. He renders it easy to grasp.

Thank you for your latest message. Mathew Kelley is an excellent writer; easy to read and easy to understand. I have read two of his books in the past and look forward to reading Beautiful Eucharist.
