Everyday Evangelization Part 7

Dear Holy Family,

This quote from Pope Francis recently caught my attention: “The Church is called to carry out her mission in charity… to be a ‘field hospital’ with doors wide open to whoever knocks in search of help and support; even more, to reach out to others with true love, to walk with our fellow men and women who suffer, to include them and guide them to the wellspring of salvation.” (Pope Francis homily, 10/4/2015)

The world is desperate for healing, meaning, and truth.  Suicide and anxiety rates as well as drug and alcohol use are at historic highs.  Roughly 85% of young Catholics are leaving the Church by the age of 20.  Let us not grow accustomed to this reality.  Pope Francis is telling us that we (the Church) must take up the role of a “field hospital”.  Our role as Catholics is to be immersed in our community, dressing the wounds we encounter and leading people to deeper healing.  Let us seek to connect with the quiet desperation others may be feeling in their lives.  May we share with them the healing power of God’s love.  May we do our part to guide them to the “wellspring of salvation.”

In the peace of Christ,

Bob
