Everyday Evangelization

Dear Holy Family,

In his book, Holy Moments, Matthew Kelly showed us how our simple acts can have an amazing effect on others and literally change the world.  In this column last week, I cited some of Kelly’s simple, “everyday examples” of such evangelization.  That’s right – I used that intimidating word, evangelization!  We Catholics have tended to shy from in-your-face evangelization tactics, but Kelly showed us that we don’t even have to say a word in order to become the evangelists we are called to be.

With the passing from this world of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, I thought it might be good to see what the good Holy Father had to say about Catholic evangelization: The Church always evangelizes and has never interrupted the path of evangelization.  She celebrates the Eucharistic mystery every day, administers the sacraments, proclaims the word of life – the Word of God, and commits herself to the causes of justice and charity. And this evangelization bears fruit.

Imagine if all Catholics committed to the causes of justice and charity – what a changed world we would see!

Care to share any “everyday evangelization” examples of your own?  Or learn of simple acts that have worked for others?  Post your comment or two right here and join the conversation!

In the peace of Christ,

Bob
