Beautiful Eucharist: Up Close and Personal
If you didn’t receive your free copy of Matthew Kelly’s Beautiful Eucharist and wish to join the parish-wide reading of the book, see Kathy or Judy in the parish office. There may still be a few extra copies.
In her “Why I Lied to My Pastor About First Communion” chapter of our Beautiful Eucharist book, Sr. Helen Burns, FSP spends most of the chapter telling us how disbelieving in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, and therefore how disengaged she was with the Church. In her lack of faith, she turned to existentialism and deism, and even contemplated suicide.
She then describes how a couple of prayerful conversations she offered up to the God whose existence she still doubted turned into miraculous encounters in which God revealed His presence to her. One of those revelations occurred when she directly questioned His presence while in front of the tabernacle. She asked, “So, are you there, Lord?”, and instantly heard, “Yes, I am here.” Four days later, she was called by God to become a Sister. She says:
God could have communicated with me before I asked, but I believe He waited until I prayed wholeheartedly to show me the importance of prayer. God could have infused the knowledge that He was present in the Eucharist but I believe He wanted me to encounter His Presence up close and personal.
In what sort of “up close and personal” ways has God revealed Himself to you?

I think one needs to be content with the presence and not be awaiting the voice of Jesus.
I often feel his presence and certainly find peace and direction in that presence. Perhaps in time as I work to remove the outside noise his voice will be more clear.
Just a share,
steve
